Monday Night Poetry: Cynthia Cruz + Carlie Hoffman

American poet Cynthia Cruz is the author of Dregs (Four Way Books, 2018), How The End Begins (Four Way Books, 2016), Wunderkammer (Four Way Books, 2014), The Glimmering Room (Four Way Books, 2012), and Ruin (Alice James, 2006). Guidebooks for the Dead, her sixth collection of poems, is forthcoming from Four Way Books in 2020. She has published poems in numerous literary journals and magazines including the New Yorker, Kenyon Review, the Paris Review, BOMB, and the Boston Review. She is the editor of an anthology of Latina poetry, Other Musics: New Latina Poetry (University of Oklahoma Press, 2019). She is the recipient of fellowships from Yaddo, the MacDowell Colony, and a Hodder fellowship from Princeton University. Cruz teaches writing at Sarah Lawrence College. Her first collection of essays, Disquieting: Essays on Silence, an exploration of silence and power, will be published in April of 2019 by Bookt*hug. She lives in Brooklyn. Carlie Hoffman’s debut poetry collection, This Alaska, is forthcoming from Four Way Books in 2021. Carlie’s honors include a 92Y/Discovery Prize, an Amy Award from Poets & Writers, a Brooklyn Poets fellowship, and fellowships from the New York State Summer Writer’s Institute and Columbia University. She has twice been listed as one of Narrative Magazine's 30 below 30 poets. Carlie’s poems have been published in Bennington Review, Boston Review, North American Review, New England Review, TriQuarterly, and elsewhere. Currently she is a Lecturer in Creative Writing at Purchase College, SUNY and is on the writing faculty at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Carlie is the founding editor and editor-in-chief of Small Orange Journal.  She lives in Brooklyn.
