Chris Such and His Savages are the Headless Horsemen formed in September 1985, by guitarist Elan Portnoy from the Fuzztones, and bassist Peter Stuart of the Tryfles, both stalwarts of the NYC Dive scene in the early 80’s. Guitarist Chris Cush and drummer Dave Ari joined the next year, and the band soon signed to Resonance Records, releasing their all-original debut LP CAN’T HELP BUT SHAKE in 1987. The Horsemen toured Europe extensively over the next couple of years with an all-out scorcher of a rock show show influenced by The Flamin’ Groovies, The Who, and the Pretty Things, among many others. Disbanding as the 90’s dawned, Chris Cush went on to found the legendary Mojo Guitars in the East Village, but the Horsemen reform on special occasions and are known to host surprise cameo appearances from first-wave garage rock icons such as the Moving Sidewalks’ Billy Gibbons, Roy Loney of Flamin’ Groovies, and others.

The Sharps are a new group out of NYC, comprised of former members of The Optic Nerve, Beat Rats, and The Fabulous Blue Jays. Reminiscent of the punk bands of the mid-seventies The Sharps are touring in between writing and recording their debut album.

A pioneer in the practice of ayahuasca-based divination and LSD micro-dosing, DJ/musican Kid Bowery partook, last spring, in a “somatic experiencing” study sponsored by Denmark’s Ministry of Health and Social Affairs. The experience is one he credits as having spurred on his breakthrough theory of Contra Ishcemic omni-Consciousness (CIoC). “No one got bored on the fjord!” says Bowery, in fond remembrance of the Christiania-based study’s participants who later enlisted his turntabling chops to help celebrate the study’s conclusion through a series of “Midnattsol Dans-in” (or midnight sun dance-in’s). Kid Bowery psych-heavy sets were the centerpiece to an event the Scandinavian press described as “an historic fortnight of sweaty transcendence.”

*Every Red Door Sessions show is a benefit. Every benefit supports the resistance though direct donation to organizations that fight for reproductive rights and freedoms, arts/legal support for undocumented youth, and an end to climate change denial.
