Mahogany L. Browne is the author of several books, including her latest collection of poems Swag, and the editor of the women’s anthology His Rib: Stories, Poems & Essays by HER. She has released five LPs including the live album Sheroshima. As co-founder of the Off Broadway poetry production Jam On It, and co-producer of New York City’s first performance poetry festival, SoundBites, Mahogany bridges the gap between lyrical poetry and literary emcee. She facilitates performance poetry and writing workshops throughout the country, focusing on women’s empowerment and youth mentoring. She is the publisher of Penmanship Books, a small press for performance artists and owns PoetCD.Com, an on-line marketing and distribution company for poets. Mahogany is currently host and curator at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe.
Thomas Sayers Ellis is a poet, photographer, and Assistant Professor of Creative Writing at Sarah Lawrence College in Yonkers, New York and a core faculty member of the Lesley University Low Residency MFA Program in Cambridge, MA. He is a contributing editor to Callaloo and a consulting editor to A Public Space. He compiled and edited Quotes Community: Notes for Black Poets (University of Michigan Press, Poets on Poetry Series). He will be reading from his new book of poems Skin, Inc. just out from Graywolf Press.
