Drunken Careening Writers

J. Stephen Brantley’s work has been commissioned by Lincoln Center Director’s Lab and Performance Space 122, where his Distortion Taco was named a Village Voice Pick Of The Year. His plays Break, Blood Grass, Furbelow, Good God Enters Flossing, The Jamb, Nevertheless, Shiny Pair Of Complications, and Struck have been performed across the US, in Canada, and in Ireland. Brantley’s Eightythree Down, which won the 2009 Georgia Theatre Conference Award, opens September 1st at Under St. Marks in NYC. J.Stephen is a graduate of NYU’s Experimental Theatre Wing, a member of EAT and TOSOS, artistic director of Hard Sparks, and a quintessential Scorpio. Kevin Holohan was born in Dublin and after a primary and secondary school education at the hands of the Irish Christian Brothers attended University College Dublin where he studied Pure English, the system’s third most unemployable degree. After graduating he spent six years teaching English as a Foreign Languish in Castilla La Mancha, Spain where he learned to love Flamenco and his proudest achievement was to eventually read Don Quixote in the original. He moved to New York in 1996 where he now lives with his wife and five-year-old son. The Brothers’ Lot is his first novel. His short stories have been published in Cyphers, The Sunday Tribune (Dublin), and, most recently, in Whispers and Shouts. His poetry has been published in Studies, Casablanca, Envoi, and Poetry Ireland.

Thaddeus Rutkowski is the author of the novels Haywire, Tetched and Roughhouse. Haywire, a novel in flash fictions, reached No. 1 on Small Press Distribution’s fiction best-seller list. Both Tetched and Roughhouse were finalists for a Members’ Choice Asian American Literary Award. He teaches literature at City University of New York and fiction writing at the Writer’s Voice of the West Side YMCA. Drunken! Careening! Writers! is a reading series based on the proposition that all readings should be by: 1) Good Writers; 2) Who read their work well; 3) Something in it makes people laugh (nervous laughter counts). And 15 minutes tops.
