SONGWRITER NIGHT
at the Trumpet Fiction Reading Series
Three of New York’s most engaging singer-songwriters share their songs and stories.
Hosted by Anne Mironchik www.annemironchik.com along with Kaydi Johnson www.kaydijohnsong.com and Rupert Wates www.rupertwates.com
Rupert Wates:
London-born, based in New York since 2007, he describes his material as acoustic, melodic art/folk. In 2007 he won Gold Prize in the Midatlantic Song Contest held in DC, and took Second Prize in the North Carolina Songwriting Contest held in Holly Springs. His album ‘Coast To Coast’ was voted a TOP 10 album for year 2007 by Britsound Radio New Jersey. Has just
returned from a three month solo tour of the US. A new album ‘Dear Life’ is to be released November 2008.
Kaydi Johnson:
It’s not easy to put Kaydi Johnson’s music into a neat package. She deftly cracks the stereotype of the cordial female singer/songwriter holding a guitar. Known for her witty word plays and tightrope topics, it’s tough not to get drawn in and intoxicated by her crisp musical style and insightful lyrics. Her eagerly awaited third CD, “Peasant of the Wreck,” transcends
the safety of your garden-variety composition. Exploring themes of family, corruption, politics and love, Kaydi holds nothing back.
Anne Mironchik:
“Carole King, with some extra swing!”, Anne’s music is reminiscent of your favorite hits of the 70s & 80s. Anne is a vocalist, pianist, composer and lyricist with a conservatory degree in jazz and roots in rock, blues, R&B and country. Her shows include her original songs and some well-known jazz standards. Her well-crafted songs mix the simplicity and soul of Carole
King’s melodies with the R&B spirit of Laura Nyro’s chords and rhythms. Weaving in lyrics that are sensible, without being sentimental, she never misses a toe-tappin’ beat as she explores the struggles, loves, fears and joys of everyday heroes.
Trumpet Fiction is ducts’ live reading series held the second Saturday of the month in New York City hosted by our Editor-in-Chief, Jonathan Kravetz.
