The Agriculture Reader is pleased to present one of our favorite poets, Anthony McCann. He will be joined by Ag.Re. editors Jeremy Schmall and Justin Taylor, and fiction contributor Mark Edmund Doten. Pleasure will be
manifold, but seating is limited.
Anthony McCann was born and raised in the Hudson Valley. He is the author of Moongarden (Wave Books, 2006) and Father of Noise (Fence Books, 2003). In addition to these two collections, he is one of the authors of Gentle Reader! (2007), a book of erasures of the English Romantics, along with Joshua Beckman and Matthew Rohrer. He has taught English as a Second Language in the former Czechoslovakia, South Korea and Nicaragua, as well as in New York City. Currently he lives in Los Angeles and teaches poetry at CalArts and ESL to immigrants. He is also the ceremonial and acting poet laureate of Machine Project, an art-performance-gallery-instructional space in the Echo Park section of LA.
Mark Edmund Doten is enrolled in Columbia University’s MFA writing program. His fiction has appeared or is forthcoming in Exquisite Corpse, New York Magazine, The Agriculture Reader, 2river, Word Riot, Mudlark, The Potomac and Dennis Cooper’s “Userlands: New Fiction Writers from the Blogging Underground” (Akashic Books). His interviews with Scott Heim, Brian Evenson, Rick Moody and Edmund White have appeared in various Internet publications.
Jeremy Schmall is the editor and founder of The Agriculture Reader, a small-run, handmade art journal, and the author of a chapbook, Underneath an Obnoxious Moon, and an artist book, The Slapdown. He’s been published in Hotel St. George, Pilot, Juked, and Forklift, OH: A Journal of Poetry, Cooking, & Light Industrial Safety. He lives in Brooklyn.
Justin Taylor is the editor of The Apocalypse Reader, and Come Back, Donald Barthelme. His writing has been published by NPR, Paste, YETI, and numerous other journals, magazines and websites. His essay “Fort Smith, Arkansas: A Monologue” was an honorable mention in Best American Essays 2007. His short story “The Jealousy of Angels” is forthcoming in Best of the Web 2008 With Jeremy Schmall, he co-edits The Agriculture Reader.
